Did you notice the name of our Facebook group was recently changed? Sure, it's still the same name, but now ALL CAPS. If you'd like to learn more about Team Laktatexpress going-big-strategy, read more ...

I was aware my team mates take CX much more seriously than I do. But since they made some trips to Belgium in December, it got worse. Printed rider CV cards to be signed and given to autograph collectors, considerations around swapping the plain white Ducato van for a custom-painted double-decker mobile home that makes Team Sky look like an elderly gentlemen's amateur club – clear indication of 'megalomania' at a progressed stage.

As you're probably wondering why this text isn't written in German as usual: Effective 1st of January 2016, I was instructed to publish any race report in a triple language version: English, French, and Dutch. Obviously, that's part of the going-big-and-international-strategy. I really fought hard to get rid of the French and Dutch.

Okay, so last week end we went to Vechta in order to participate in the German CX championships or one of the complementing amateur races. I was very pleased that the 'Hobby' class competition as well as the Elite Women's race took place in the (Saturday) afternoon – so this time no bloody alarm clock ringing at 6 in the morning. However, rushing in from Wuppertal on Saturday, I wasn't expecting anything like snow or ice. In fact, the first challenge in Vechta was walking on the icy ground of the car parking.

Fortunately, in the afternoon the race track itself wasn't frozen any more, and the slippery corner where my ride came to a sudden end last year was no longer part of the track. Overall, the course was pretty much the same like last year, including the zig-zag section in the centre of the stadium where usually riders practice with their horses, the beautiful slalom-type section in the woods, and the steep climb that theoretically everybody could have cycled up to the top – if practically there wasn' t that stupid step right in the middle.

Long story short: Julia and Kristin apparently were quite happy with their results. Mrs. Brandau won the national championship and proved Pirelli – or was it GoodYear? – wrong: Power isn't nothing without control. Ms. Lambracht (former champion who came in second this time) showed she has matured (by stating right after the race that, as she is just 20 years old, there will be another chance for her in the future). I managed to finish my race with dignity (no 'DNF' mark, no one lapping me).  An while Matthias refrained from competing due to his foot ankle injury (CX related, of course), there are rumours that he enjoyed a crowd of supporters enthusiastically watching him while he was cleaning the muddy bikes, and the rider CV cards are already out of stock. (Haven't heard anything yet regarding Alex' race this Sunday.)

----------

By the way, could I have some cards with my own Palmerès, please? These would be the details:

Rider: Da Reverend (for the Belgian issue: Da Jelle)
Disciplines: Cycling on the road or off the road, but never running or even swimming
Strengths: Hors category climbs and knowing almost everything about the various bottom bracket shell specs in the industry
Weaknesses: Err, what do you mean?

Palmarès:
2000 – 3rd 'Master' in Marsberg MTB race (5 minutes ahead of Marbod as well as Rainer!)
2005 – Top9 overall ranking 116 km distance of Zierenberg MTB race (well, it was just 26 participants but that's too much detail I guess...)
2010 – Most active rider in Sille & Didi's training camp in Mallorca
2014 – Winner of Vasant's 'Beat the doctor' prize at Col du Glandon and Col du Galibier

Bedankt!
